I’ve been curious about the bike used in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movie ever since the trailer came out, with a Trent Reznor version of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” playing. The guys at Bike Exif have posted a wonderful article about how the bike(s) were prepared in Los Angeles by Justin Kell of Glory Motor Works. Kell came with the concept of having a bike that would seem logical for a person of Lisbeth Salander’s (played by Rooney Mara) age to own. The bike they ended up building was based on a late 60s Honda CB350. 3 examples were made for the movie.
Check out Shinya Kimura’s video on YouTube.
Shinya Kimura’s Japanese chopper fabrication company Zero Engineering, was responsible for unique, raw interpretations of a custom Harley-Davidson. Since then, Kimura moved to the USA and set up Chabott Engineering in Azusa, California. Check out his blog here.
Want a Japanese cafe racer but can’t find a Yamaha SR400/500? No fear, the Suzuki Savage based CS-1 from Ryca Motors is now available.
You can create a thumper from a kit which has everything you’ll need to build your own CS-1 cafe racer. It is very important to note that the kit was designed to avoid any major modifications to the frame or engine! Just find a usable example of the 650cc, 30bhp Suzuki Savage and get to work with a Ryca Motors kit.
The designer, Casey Stevenson is a 37-year old who lives in Los Angeles, California. Stevenson used to design zero-gravity microcapsules for the Space Shuttle Discovery.
“The Savage motor was perfect for the project, but it was a real stretch of the imagination to see the rest of the bike as something I would want to ride. But the overall shape of the stock tank isn’t bad, so I started to mess with it a little, cutting off the bottom and sections of the front to make it sit much lower on the frame. I like to make the most of what I’ve got, so after the tank was all welded up, I made the decision to use as much of the stock bike as possible. Things just flowed from there, and I realised the best ways of making the components were also the simplest and most cost effective.”

Yes bike fans, that’s right. Take one of these:
A lot of knuckle grease, sweat and tears and you get this!
Owner Engelbert Visscher of Enschede, Netherlands describes the bike as being a “Zero Cafe Racer, XV750 1981, total rebuild, sharp steering low, ground clearance, bad brakes but f…… faaaaaaassssssssstttttt”.
Based on a 1983 Honda CB900 F2 Bol d’Or, the Spanish customiser Cafe Racer Dreams (CRD) has produced this masterpiece. Run by Pedro Garcia and partners, CRD produces customs based on Japanese motorcycles from the 70s and 80s. Updates are posted on their blog.
The latest movie in the Terminator series is the upcoming “Terminator Salvation“, starring Christian Bale. While there will be lots of different Terminators, one model we’re especially looking forward to see is the “Moto-Terminator” seen in the trailer.
In Dubai recently, the second annual Cinema Against AIDS charity auction raised US$1.8 million. Among the celebrity audience were Goldie Hawn, Salma Hayek, Oliver Stone, Sharon Stone and Laura Linney, but to name a few.
Highest selling item of the night? None other than the “Terminator Salvation” premiere package which contained tickets to the premiere as well as the “Moto-Terminator” from the movie. The price? US$$140,000. I wonder who that lucky guy in Dubai who owns this bike is, and will he be riding it!??

VIDEO: Kawasaki Live
Hell Ride, a movie by Quentin Tarantino has the usual trademark sex, drugs, rock & roll and bikes. It’s about bad guys vs. even badder guys! One of the characters, Machete, (who happens to be one of the ‘even badder’ baddies) played by Francesco Quinn, son of legendary actor Anthony Quinn rides his own motorcycle, customised of course, in the movie. The producers took his 2006 Honda VTX1300 to Honda VP Ray Blank for a movie makeover. They painted the bike flat black and spilled gasoline over the paintjob, rubbing it in with a rag to give it a used and abused look. Also added were a Cobra exhaust, unique triple-beam headlights, Kellerman BL 1000 bar-end signals, K&N filter and jet kit. As you read this, the bike would have probably been signed by Francesco and auctioned off for charity. How’s this for a movie chopper? A Honda? Looks like the producers wanted something just a bit different from the usual Harleys and Indians normally used in this genre. Don’t worry, you’ll find plenty of those too.

I was watching OCC (Orange County Choppers) build a Brough Superior-inspired bike for Jay Leno but it didn’t quite appeal to me, being a chopper and all that so I started searching online and found this, the Banquer Superior.
The Banquer Superior is an all-new motorcycle with all the style and looks of a Brough Superior, but with a modern Harley-Davidson engine, brakes and electronics. Florida based Gwen Banquer, a motorcycle fan built this bike for himself and has since built another. Check out this site for more details. Gwen’s bike appeals to me but I’d like a smaller headlight and one of those new Knucklehead motors from RevTech.
Gwen can build you one for about US$36,000 depending on what you want. This is a handbuilt work of art so don’t let the price tag put you off.

By the way here’s the Jay Leno OCC Brough-inspired bike for comparison.

Have you watched Dark Knight yet? At about 155 minutes it’s a really good movie to watch. The vehicles in the movie are pretty well built, and I just stumbled upon this amazing look at the technology behind Batman’s BatPod bike.
