Shown here is the “Super Accent Ogano Woody Super Cub50″ by White House, Japan. The seat looks like it’s upholstered in leather and really cool retro-classic Honda logos have been fitted. I’m not sure if it’s really made from wood or metal painted to look like wood. Sure is cool though, don’t you think?
More pics below!
This funny little mini-chopper was built by (I believe) TH Bikers of Kampung Baru, Malaysia. It’s based on a Modenas Kriss 110 (licence-built Kawasaki moped). No prizes for guessing which Harley-Davidson inspired it. The V-Rod of course.
An interesting concept, it combines the modern chopper-style look of the V-Rod with the frugal 110cc powertrain of a Kriss 110. IMHO if you take off the tacky looking stickers I think it would look much nicer. Since it’s so small, let’s call it the “Hardly-Davidson”!

Jimmie Johnson and the JJF tribute motorcycle, with the crew of 2Xtreem TV
The new “MotoStars: Celebrities + Motorcycles” exhibit at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum opens June 28, 2008, spotlighting over 100 of the country’s most passionate celebrity moto enthusiasts, their motorcycles and personal memorabilia. Among them is Jimmie Johnson, the two-time reigning NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion, whose Jimmie Johnson Foundation (JJF) has green flagged the inclusion of a special 2008 Star Motorcycles Warrior, customized by 2Xtreem Motorcycle TV and sponsored by Sunoco (www.racegas.com). The motorcycle, which was built as a tribute to the Jimmie Johnson Foundation, will be showcased in the exhibit until August 15, 2008.
Following its pit stop at the Museum, the motorcycle will be auctioned off at the Jimmie Johnson Foundation Annual Golf Tournament in San Diego on August 26, 2008. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the San Diego Habitat for Humanity. Visit www.jimmiejohnsonfoundation.org to learn more about the JJF and the organization’s events.
Two and four-wheeled devotees can tune in to 2Xtreem Motorcycle TV during May to watch the show’s crew build the custom JJF tribute motorcycle. Johnson even stops by 2Xtreem to take the machine for a test ride. Airdates and show times can be found at www.2Xtreem.com. Enthusiasts should also plan a visit to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum in Pickerington, Ohio, for a chance to admire the JJF tribute motorcycle in person, as well as motorcycles and memorabilia from other well-known athletes, musician, actors, artists, builders and industry leaders. The ribbon-cutting for “MotoStars: Celebrities + Motorcycles” is Saturday, June 28. Visit www.motorcyclemuseum.org for more information and information on how to join in on opening weekend festivities.

Top Gear has posted a short story on this amazing jet bike by Aussie builder Ron Laycock. The bike is equipped with a 3,800 bhp Rolls-Royce turbojet engine. I wouldn’t want to even guess his fuel consumption but I’d dare say his Jet Bike eats up tyres like nobody’s business! Good work Ron, but I really must recommend a full face helmet and fireproof overalls!

Recently, custom chopper builder Jesse James has unveiled his West Coast Choppers CFL II frame. The ‘CFL’ in the name presumably stands for ‘Choppers for Life’. The CFL II frame is revolutionary as it is constructed from folded sheet steel, whereas conventional chopper frames are made from steel tubing, welded together. This is not altogether a totally new idea as motorcycles have used stamped steel frames in the past (BMW’s late 1920s ‘Star’ frame comes to mind). However, Jesse James has done something new for the world of choppers, where this frame is basically made from flat sheet steel, which is bent and welded together with strategically placed steel tubing, in a sort of ‘origami’ fashion. A departure from the rise of all the funky, but ultimately quite similar choppers we’ve been seeing over the past few years.

Fritz W. Egli, the ingenious Swiss motorcycle mechanic an design engineer is no stranger to many bike enthusiasts worldwide. He has become famous for putting his ‘EGLI‘ touch on countless series-production motorcycle engines and chassis. Over the years, the name Egli has become synonymous with bikers expectations of Swiss meticulousness, effort and precision. Egli simply describes his work as making a motorcycle more ‘friendly’.
This authorised, official film on Fritz Egli presents the background story and the legendary mods and improvements made by EGLI – for example the Honda CB750, CBX, Kawasaki Z1, MRD1 and others. The film includes impressive shots from all perspectives while riding both on road and track. Fritz Egli can be seen working on his incredible machine. Unique to this film is his 1986 attempt at a world record in Nardo, digitally revised and exclusive to this DVD only.
The DVD costs Euro24.90 not including shipping, and more information is on www.eglifilm.eu. Egli currently sells brands like Yamaha, Royal Enfield, Chang Jiang, MZ, Sherco, Rieju and Sachs.

AKIRA: KANEDA’S BIKE
Some of us may remember Akira, a 1988 Japanese anime film version by Katsuhiro Otomo, which was based on his original manga comic story. The story is about characters in post-nuclear war 2019 Tokyo, where Neo-Tokyo is filled with protestors, teenage bikers, soldiers and street gangs.
Central character Kaneda, a biker who attends reform school battles with his Capsule Motorcycle Club against the Clown bike gang and rides a really cool (how can he afford it!?) bike which has been the subject of the manga, anime and several attempts to produce 1:1 scale Akira-influenced bikes. Bandai also made a highly detailed model, which I recently acquired (and will review here later). McFarlane Toys had earlier made a plastic version whereas the Bandai version seems to have a metal subframe and lots of options to remove and add on bodywork.
In the anime, the sound of the Kaneda bike was produced by mixing the sound of a 1929 Harley-Davidson with the sound of a jet engine! The design was supposedly by a former Honda R&D engineer who left Honda to work for White House, a Japanese custom bike company. The manga showed the Kaneda bike with a Honda logo whereas the anime had a (sort of) BMW logo.
The Kaneda bike has become something of a motorcycling icon, despite being a work of fiction! Thousands of moped riders in Malaysia and elsewhere proudly placed ‘Akira’ stickers on their helmets, and the bike has embedded itself in the psyche of bikers everywhere. In addition to the manga, anime, toys and DIY replicas, an upcoming live action movie is in the works. More on that later.

Some time ago, I posted a story on Jawa engines being used in Made-in-Malaysia Speedway bikes by Scuderia Kelana. Speedway, however, is not the only thing Jawa engines are good for.
Czech Supermono bike builders Martin and Libor Kamenický have been building their MALI-Jawa Supermono since 2004. MALI stands for MArtin and LIbor in case you were wondering. The bikes utilise JAWA engines, a brand more well-known for supplying methanol-fuelled speedway engines, and the frame is 125 ccm Cagiva Mito with a swing arm fabricated by the Kamenickys.
The price for the MALI-Jawa Supermono basically goes mainly to the purchase of components to fabricate a complete bike. Jawa Motors of the Czech Republic provides the engine, their Type 870 powerplant, a dry-sumped 625cc DOHC, water-cooled 4-stroke, 4-valve single cylinder gasoline engine with a crankcase incorporating a 6-speed gearbox with a balancer shaft and weighs 35-38kg. The output is 55kW (75PS) @ 10,000rpm, running on 98 RON gasoline (most other Jawa engines are for Speedway and run on methanol). It’s a pity this wonderful powerplant isn’t seen on BMW’s (the G450X uses a BMW-designed engine built by KYMCO, Taiwan) or Cagivas (the proposed Mito 500 will probably use a Husqvarna motor).

Just after posting about Malaysia’s Proton R&D’s Wira 1.5L car engined bike, where I wondered if Proton R&D engineers were watching too much American Chopper, I stumbled upon these images of a bike with a V8 engine stuffed in! The site asks if Ghost Rider were Russian, wouldn’t he ride this? To me it looks more like something out of some post-apocalyptic ‘Mad Max’ type movie. Put together by some maniac techno-genius after the world is decimated by atomic war/zombie holocaust/plague/famine/etc or ridden by a crazed member of the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, perhaps!
Sadly, IMHO the owner went further and turned it into a sidecar setup with some ‘dainty’ colours and fibreglass parts, which to my eyes softens the entire hard-edged DIY ratbike/survival bike theme seen in these pictures. The engineering looks innovative, with hub-centric steering on the front wheel similar to that on the Bimota Tesi and on the much smaller capacity Italjet Formula. Could this be the largest capacity bike in the world with hub-centric steering? The rear tyre looks like its for automotive use and wouldn’t be much help when banking, but it must be said that the builder later added a sidecar setup to this bike.
If anyone can shed some light on who the builder is, please post this information in the comments below. Thank you!

Apparently Proton engineers are avid viewers and fans of Discovery Channel’s American Chopper! Proton, a Malaysian carmaker has apparently built it’s own concept bike – a chopper powered by a 1.5-litre ‘MegaValve‘ Proton Wira (Wira is a Malay word derived from Sanskrit meaning ‘Hero’) engine, according to a post by Arman Ahmad, a journalist at New Straits Times in Malaysia in his blog ‘Man On Wheels‘. The Wira engine is derived from Mitsubishi’s ‘Orion‘ 4G15 SOHC engine.
Proton R&D’s massive chopper is apparently an engineering exercise with no plans for production. The 17″ rear wheel is from Proton automobile and is fitted with a 210/50R17 motorcycle tyre. The front is a 21-inch motorcycle wheel with a 80/90 tyre. A modified driveshaft comes out of one end of the differential and drives the rear wheel through some sort of 90-degree gearbox (not seen in Arman Ahmad’s pics).
Proton R&D doesn’t appear to be planning to sell any copies but they were inspired by the Dodge Tomahawk concept bike and the fact that automakers BMW, Suzuki and Honda also build bikes. However, it must be noted that those companies started out with 2-wheelers and made 4-wheelers only later!
What do you think of their efforts? Post your comments below!
