“Yoshimura Motors” was founded in Fukuoka, Japan in 1954. Headed by the late Pops Yoshimura (October 7, 1922 – March 29, 1995), who started engine tuning in his own way, being a former military aircraft mechanic in World War 2. Since there wasn’t much information on engine tuning at that time, and he tuned many engines all by himself with his inspiration and knowledge in engineering. Soon later he became famous for tuning among American armies, and he started to be called “God Hand” in Japan. He challenged everything to overcome problems and improve tuning ability by himself and his continuous challenges made many victories in various races.
The years of experience made the name “Yoshimura” famous for the quality and the performance. Still more, the reputation has been created from various racing victories around the world. And they were the result of his unremitting effort.
Yoshimura expanded abroad in 1973 and Yoshimura companies (Yoshimura Japan Co., Ltd. and Yoshimura Research & Development of America, Inc.) were established to deal with motorcycle performance products.
Yoshimura now has a full stainless tri-oval exhaust system for the Suzuki FU150r Raider (aka Belang/Satria F). There are two options, SS for Stainless (P/N: 180-106-5350) and ST for Titanium (P/N: 180-106-5380). Noise is rated at about 95dB. There aren’t any torque curves or other info just yet but judging from what they did for the Ninja 250R, the results should be good.
It would be nice to see what Yoshimura can do with the FU150r if they go all out with the mods like they did with the Yoshimura Katana 1135R. A Yoshimura “FU150r-R” perhaps?

Kawasaki‘s KSR110 is a fun little 111cc Supermotard bike which is quickly gaining popularity around the world, especially in Japan and South-East Asia. A number of tuning companies have cropped up, catering for the KSR like Takegawa, Kitaco, Striker and others.
Carrozzeria of Japan, which manufactures Ohlins suspension for popular Japanese motor vehicles, has introduced the Ohlins Type 36HRCL rear suspension strut for the KSR110. The KSR’s cornering speed in racing helps improve lap times, making it a critical part for victory in events like KSR Cup one-make races. In addition, general roadgoing maneuverability of the KSR110 in both urban and highway situations due to its wide range of possible settings. The Ohlins Type 36HRCL (Part No. SR-SU60-R) features an external reservoir for damper settings for damper pressure adjustment and an adjustable spring perch for height adjustment. This tasty looking Ohlins setup will cost you about US$1030 (RM3,334).

Schuberth GmbH has announced that multiple Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher (reported to be racing on two-wheelers here) will be spearheading the firm’s development of sports motorcycle helmets.
Beginning with the ‘Schuberth Race’ helmet, Michael will continue to bring his wealth of experience to the Schuberth’s R&D department in order to develop new models. This arrangement continues a unique and extensive partnership between the German brand and the seven-time F1 champion who developed and used Schuberth helmets until he retired from the sport. During his excursions into the world of motorbike sports the most successful Formula 1 world champion of all times trusts in a Schuberth product, the specially developed “Schuberth RACE”. As head tester he is going to be involved in the development of the new Schuberth motorcycle helmets going forward.
Schuberth’s engineers have developed this new crash helmet in close collaboration with Michael himself. In true Schuberth style, the result is an extremely lightweight and aerodynamic helmet, filled with numerous technical and safety innovations.
Since leaving four-wheel competition, Schumacher has failed to resist his passion for all things fast and loud. The German’s longstanding love for motorcycles has seen him enter pro-amateur races in Europe, picking up a debut win in just his second event. Schumacher explains the continued relationship: ‘Throughout my time in Formula 1 I really appreciated just how fast and accurately the people at Schuberth were able to work. Attention to detail has always been particularly important to me, and I don’t intend to leave anything to chance in the future either.’
Let’s see some good results from this relationship as the former champ channels some of his perfectionism into the evolution of Schuberth products. Formula 1 and motorcycling technology have much in common – there is no margin for error in either. No further information on the price or availability of the ‘Schuberth Race’ helmet is available at this time.

Did you think that only larger motorcycles could be tuned and modified? Takegawa is known for making tuning parts for smaller bikes and made a name for themselves producing tuning parts for the Honda Monkey and Gorilla, two of the worlds definitive midget motorcycles. Kitaco and others have been also making a name for themselves. Lately the Kawasaki KSR110 has joined the fray, albeit being a bit larger, which does no harm in encouraging people to even use it as a daily commuter. One interesting spin-off is that enthusiasts have been modifying the KSR110, abandoning its Supermoto looks and converting the bike to a sort of track racer look. This video shows what can be done with a KSR110, which the makers have dubbed the “KR110 Endurance”, partly inspired by the Kawasaki K1000J, a bike as big and strong as beef cattle!

Yoshimura R&D, one of the world’s largest motorcycle aftermarket parts suppliers, have unveiled their TRC slip-on exhaust system for the 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250. With a brand new design and numerous improvements, Yoshimura have developed an exhaust system perfectly matched to the style and performance of the Ninja‘s 249cc parallel twin.
Their slip-on exhaust system features their popular TRC muffler in Carbon Fiber, Stainless Steel, or Titanium trim, matched with a stainless steel tailpipe and laser cut tailpipe heatshield, all conceptualized together to complement the Kawasaki Ninja 250’s looks. Yoshimura R&D was established in 1954 by Hideo ‘Pops’ Yoshimura.
TRC Stainless/Stainless Slip-on (P/N 1406275) – US$429.00 MSRP
TRC Stainless/Titanium Slip-on (P/N 1466277) – US$499.99 MSRP
TRC Stainless/Carbon Slip-on (P/N 1406272) – US$549.00 MSRP
Yoshimura’s TRC exhausts aren’t exactly cheap but you can be assured that Yoshimura’s philosophy is such that all of their products are made as a result of knowledge learned from racing. Cost considerations are scrimping on materials are not part of this philosophy.

Brycen Spencer, an engineering student has created the Wireless Impact Guardian (WIG). The WIG works by beeping upon impact, and if not turned off, it sends a signal to emergency services. For crash victims who need help which often arrive too late, the WIG could actually be a lifesaver. Imagine crashing on a winding country road with no help around for miles and miles. Even a mobile phone would be useless as you wouldn’t be able to operate it.
Spencer has invested US$2500 of his own money and has won US$2500 prize money. He is convinced that his idea has arrived at the right time and could take off soon. His invention has been nicknamed the “OnStar” of the motorcycle world, which is an apt description.

Imagine sticking this into your exhaust, being able to cook your lunch and save money by not wasting gas or electricity. Design Boom organised a design competition, and the ‘Exhaust Burger’ was on of the designs entered by an Iranian team comprising of Roohollah Merrikhpour, Mina Mirzahossein, Narges Alam, Hani Saghaiyan, Elmira Manafnejad, Sanaz Ghaem Maghami and Navvab Bahreyni.
The designers describe the device as a ‘mobile barbeque’ and in their own words: “Your car exhaust is a barbeque now.. Stop the car when you are hungry, install the device to the exhaust and back to drive,, You’ll have a hamburger in no time. This way you don’t need fuel for cooking while commuting and a large amount of energy would be saved.”
I first spotted this on The Scooter Scoop. As far as safety is concerned, I’ll leave it to the Ministry of Health to decide.
