Some time ago, I posted a story on Jawa engines being used in Made-in-Malaysia Speedway bikes by Scuderia Kelana. Speedway, however, is not the only thing Jawa engines are good for.

Czech Supermono bike builders Martin and Libor Kamenický have been building their MALI-Jawa Supermono since 2004. MALI stands for MArtin and LIbor in case you were wondering. The bikes utilise JAWA engines, a brand more well-known for supplying methanol-fuelled speedway engines, and the frame is 125 ccm Cagiva Mito with a swing arm fabricated by the Kamenickys.

The price for the MALI-Jawa Supermono basically goes mainly to the purchase of components to fabricate a complete bike. Jawa Motors of the Czech Republic provides the engine, their Type 870 powerplant, a dry-sumped 625cc DOHC, water-cooled 4-stroke, 4-valve single cylinder gasoline engine with a crankcase incorporating a 6-speed gearbox with a balancer shaft and weighs 35-38kg. The output is 55kW (75PS) @ 10,000rpm, running on 98 RON gasoline (most other Jawa engines are for Speedway and run on methanol). It’s a pity this wonderful powerplant isn’t seen on BMW‘s (the G450X uses a BMW-designed engine built by KYMCO, Taiwan) or Cagivas (the proposed Mito 500 will probably use a Husqvarna motor).
